NEVADA, USA – iPhone-carrying players going into casinos in Nevada are best advised to leave their nifty gadgets in their hotel rooms or otherwise face scrutiny or at least a lengthened monitoring from casino operators.
That is after state gambling regulators in Nevada passed a warning to casino operators in Nevada about a card-counting program available on Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch. With this card-counting program, installed via the iTunes website, players will be able to beat the house at blackjack tables.
Nevada gambling officials sent out the warning after being tipped off by their Californian counterparts. A northern Californian aboriginal casino found out customers using the device to cheat at the tables and subsequently alerted the California Bureau of Gambling Control. The CBGC in turn, passed the news to the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
While card-counting itself is not prohibited under the state’s gambling las, the use of devices to count cards is a crime. Players caught using the iPhone counting card program “could be detained by casino operators and arrested by state gaming agents.”
