ISLE OF MAN — Playtech, the turnkey gaming software provider, has announced a deal with Paramount Pictures to develop games based on Paramount’s Gladiator and The Untouchables movies.
The two popular movies from the Hollywood studio guarantees Playtech with additional media on which to build branded and thematic games which it hopes to distribute later this year.
“We are pleased to have secured this important deal with Paramount Digital Entertainment,” said Playtech CEO Mor Weizer.”(w)hich will enable our licensees to offer games featuring two very well-known brands, Gladiator and The Untouchables.”
Weizer further noted that the two new brands of games will be embraced by their licensees which will expand their game portfolios and enhance the gaming experience for their respective customers.
The Untouchables was a 1987 film based on a 1959 crime drama TV series of the same name chronicling the efforts of agent Eliot Ness to bring down the famous Chicago mobster Al Capone. It starred Kevin Costner as Eliot Ness, Sean Connery as policeman Jim Malone, and Robert De Niro as Al Capone. It was directed by Brian de Palma.
Gladiator was an epic film by Ridley Scott released in 2000 and featured Russell Crowe in role of Maximus Decimus Meridius, a once decorated general who was betrayed, enslaved and eventually becomes a Gladiator. He rises through the ranks of the gladiators to avenge the deaths of his wife and son, and that of his Emperor. The film also starred Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, Oliver Reed, and Djimon Hounsou.
